Welcome to the BHI Workwear clothing product page.

The concept of Workwear clothing has been around in various forms since the industrial revolution, many workers in the early days simply used clothing that was old, cheap or tough to work in.

In the 1800's there was no serious contenders for a workwear clothing product that would effectively become a uniform for workers. That would change later in that century, Levi Straus produced Denim clothing, in particular trousers or jeans to which we still know them today, for workers in the frontier western United States during the gold rush and pursuit of Manifest Destiny. Hamilton Carhartt produced his first clothing product in the 1880's, Carhartt designed a workwear overall for railroad workers under the advice of a railroad worker himself to make sure Carhartt constructed the best clothing he could.

Hamilton Carhartt Set-up Carhartt Workwear in 1889 in Detroit Michigan and concentrated in those early days on railroad clothing. Dickies Workwear were set-up in 1918 by Williamson and Dickie to make the US Overall Company, which by 1922 had been bought by the Williamson family who changed the name to the Williamson Dickie Manufacturing Company or Dickies workwear clothing as it would be known.

Many work clothing companies have been set-up prior to those 3 and after but only a few deserve special mention as most companies folded or failed to produce distinguishing clothing of any note. Those who deserve special mention are:

Mascot Workwear who were set-up in Denmark in the 1980's as a family business with the objective to produce the best Workwear money can buy. To that end they have succeeded as there are very few brands that can compete with Mascot for durability, comfort, safety, innovation and value.

Praybourne deserve special mention for their Hi Vis and rail spec GO/RT safety clothing.

Praybourne ranges like Pulsarail and Pulsar are market leaders and innovation pioneers in the vast field of Hi Vis and retro reflective safety clothing. Praybourne also specialise in thermal workwear clothing or under garments specifically, as many wearers will know especially in the cold weather that underwear is a necessity to maintain a functional working outfit.

Advances in fabrics pioneered by Praybourne have made their workwear superior to many long johns or thermal tops. Believe me when I say you will definitely realise the difference when wearing superior thermal clothing under your sweatshirt and jacket.

So what constitutes a great workwear clothing brand and specifically clothing products?

There are 6 key areas that need to be considered.

1, Durability, how tough and hard wearing is the product? Are the seams triple stitched which add a massive amount of strength to an affected areas like arm holes, hems and crotches. This should definitely be on your list. What materials and fabrics are used? Cordura, Tencel, Duck Cotton or Polyester cotton fabric weaves? These are all essential components to make great workwear clothing that will last.

2, Safety, A few lesser brands have built workwear clothing that meets all the required standards but fail to make the clothing easy or comfortable to use those brands proclaim you can't have both. That is false, brands like Mascot Workwear have managed to innovate and create new fabrics and materials which perform to the highest levels while maintaining a very productive performance for the worker. Safety should always be paramount and BH Industrial has first-hand knowledge of people who will attest to that after professional mishaps and not wearing the correct workwear clothing.

3, Warmth, a simple one but essential you have to look at the detail and find which workwear brand or product will perform the best. Also little details like storm flaps and extended rear hems on jackets can make all the difference. Brands like Regatta, Mascot, Praybourne, Timberland, Portwest, Cat, Dickies workwear and Carhartt excel as their clothing is designed to retain your body heat while performing at the highest levels while you work.

4, Comfort, like warmth, is also essential while you work. If you are wearing workwear all day every day you need to make sure that it's functional and fits like a glove. As we are all irregular sizes in one area or another many brands offer workwear clothing in different waist to leg length ratios or jackets up to XXXXXXL and beyond. Look for the best comfort performance as a great guide. Any questions please contact our team of experts.

5, Innovations, Workwear clothing performance is driven hard by innovations that are designed to produce the best products available. These innovations can save your life and increase your productivity so don't dismiss them or balk at paying for them. These innovations do work and are well worth the expenditure.

6, Price, Cheap is not always best. In fact the more workwear clothing advances it is pretty much the reverse, cheap will almost undoubtedly cost you more in replacements, performance, incidents and productivity.

As far as workwear clothing is concerned you do get what you pay for, if you go for the cheap options what does that say about you?

Workwear should never be considered on price alone, that is not to say you should pay too much, there are great options available to you that will not break the bank and perform to the highest standards.
